The thesis investigated chatbots as tools for foreign language learning.
Process
Several rounds of interviews and surveys with adult language learners led up to a series of workshops. The workshops were set up to gain insight into how language learners interact with chatbots, and how their language learning needs are addressed by a chatbot.
Results
The study revealed that the language learners did not consider chatbots as possible replacements for language teachers, but would like to use them for conversational practice. Two frameworks for interaction with chatbots for learning were suggested.
